olympic

The Olympics were held in Barcelona way back in 1992 and the city benefited from it hugely with the renovation of the coastline from slums to leisure areas, up-market marinas, colourful harbours and luxury hotels. What was once wasteground has now been transformed into Villa Olimpica, an entertainment area with a cinema, parks, beaches and a leisure marina, all set off by the famous twin skyscrapers of the Hotel Arts, the Torre Mapfre and Frank Gehry’s copper fish sculpture. You can find apartments to rent in Barcelona that are spacious and elegantly furnished with all the latest mod-cons, and within walking distance to this district. The actual Olimpic Stadium is located on the hill of Montjuic and has the capacity of accommodating 65,000 people, these days it’s the base of Espanyol football team. A popular tourist attraction, particularly amongst sports fans, it’s well-known that no country boycotted the games in Barcelona, the first time this had happened for 12 years. Although originally designed in 1929 it wasn’t used until the games in ’92 and these days holds concerts and football games there.
