Joan Miro

The Foundation is a gallery in Barcelona with the most complete public collection of works by the artist Joan Miro consisting of paintings and sculptures, prints and drawings, ceramics and textiles. Recognized as one of the greatest artists of the 20th Century the Spanish Catalan painter was born in Barcelona and his Surrealist masterpieces can be seen in some of the best museums all over the world. Many of the Barcelona gothic quarter apartments are situated in the centre of the Barri Gotic which is where the Roman Barcino colony was established in the 1st century and whose Roman walls date back to the 3rd century, stay in this area and you don’t have to walk far to the best parts of the city. The Foundation organises all kinds of events during the year to celebrate art, from concerts and workshops, to basic art courses and seminars, and theatre and educational activities for anyone interested. You can also get to see some of Miro’s work in public places around the city, look out for the ‘Woman and bird’ sculpture in the Parc Joan Miró, the bronze sculpture ‘Woman’ in the Casa de la Ciutat; the collection in the Museu de Ceràmica, and the pavement at the Pla de l´Os in the Rambla.
