Eixample

The Eixample district of Barcelona underwent a lot of development during the later half of the 19th century and the designer spent a lot of time thinking about how to make it a pleasant area to live in by incorporating broad streets and ventilation. These days it’s a place that attracts tourists for its magnificent Modernista architecture, mainly created by Antoni Gaudi, the father of the Spanish Art Nouveau movement. Take a walking tour around the area as you then get to see all the best bits, and don’t miss the Passeig de Gràcia, one of the most architecturally significant streets in the city. Looking for cheap Barcelona apartments? There are plenty in the Eixample that offer luxury at a discount. Gaudí’s glorious Casa Batlló is listed with UNESCO as a World Heritage building and really you have to see it as it’s quite undescribable, the Casa Milà is also located here with its wavy walls and weird-looking chimney stacks. And the most famous building in Barcelona, the Sagrada Familia, is a truly peculiarly church still under construction decades after it was first started.
