MEAM The European Modern Art Museum of Barcelona

26 August, 2011

The Museu d’Art Modern Europeu ( MEAM) presents the best contemporary figurative art. It belongs to la Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes ( Foundation of the art and the artists) and  the purpose is the promotion and dissemination of figurative art of the 20th and the 21st  century. The goal of MEAM is to find a new contemporary language that does not deny the tradition, but arising from it to step forward in the new century. In addition, the Foundation organizes each year the Award for Figurative Painting and Sculpture and with the  website Figurativas en Red

it opens a door into the world of figurative works by contemporary artists.

The MEAM is currently located in the Palau Gomis, in the narrow street Barra de Ferro 5 of the Born area in the historical center of Barcelona. In this neighborhood culture has always been present and it reflects all the charm of old town. The Born area has managed to unite tradition and modernity and has become a must for tourists interested in Barcelona´s monuments and museums.

The MEAM is different from the other museums of contemporary art because of it´s support to artists who do figurative art.Their work is not usually exposed in other museums, collections, foundations or institutions dedicated to abstractions. For these artists the concept of contemporaneity is identified more with experimentation, abstraction, video art … etc..

Opening hours: Tuesday till Sunday from 10am till 8pm

Closed on Mondays and the 1st of January, the 1st of May, 25 and 26 December.

Buy your tickets online on the museum´s website for €5,-.  A ticket at the entrance cost €7,-
