Spain is a traditional country with customs and rituals that go back hundreds of years and are kept alive by both the Spaniards and the Catalans. Every region in Spain has its own saints whose feast is religiously celebrated and you can learn a lot about the culture of Barcelona by joining in one of the many fiestas. Religious based holidays are the reason behind many of the celebrations and play a key role in Spanish traditions. The Flamenco is well-known all over the country and the Sardana is also common at fiestas, a traditional Catalan dance it can also be seen at some of the main plaza’s around the city centre. Choose an apartment to rent in Barcelona and immerse yourself in the midst of the people who live there. It’s still common in the afternoons for the locals to take a siesta, and some of the shops close for a mid-afternoon break. Catalan cuisine is based around seafood as it is so close to the ocean, other delicious local dishes you should look out for are tapas which consist of small dishes of snacks great if you are bar hopping, Gazpacho, Paella, a favourite for ever, Sangría, and tortilla española.
