Montjuic

Montjuïc is a hill close to the center of the city which has various attractions on its slopes including the magic fountain, the Spanish Village and Montjuïc Castle, and being famous for the 1929 International Exhibition and the 1992 Olympics. The fountain was designed by Carles Buigas and is a fabulous demonstration of colour, light, motion, music and water acrobatics, it’s pretty spectacular to watch so try not to miss it. Other sights to see include the neo-baroque style National Palace which hosts the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, the Pavelló Mies van der Rohe and Poble Espanyol, both designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the 1929 Exhibition and very popular tourist attractions. The Olympic Ring is also located on Montjuïc, at the center of which is the Olympic Stadium, and the Olympic Tower built by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The Gardens get a lot of attention amongst which the most interesting are Nou Jardí Botànic and the Jardins de Mossen. Castell de Montjuïc is a large 18th century fortress built by the Bourbons on the remains of a fort dating back to 1640 and can be reached by a funicular and cable-lift.
