The number of celebrations and festivals which take place in Barcelona throughout the year has no equal in other cities, and you'll find parties and events not only in the city center but all over Catalunya.
Just to make an example we can mention Calella de Palafrugell, a small fishing village a little up the coast that hosts a funny festival called "Cantata de las Habaneras". If you are in this area or if you feel like having a trip "out of town", it could be fun to visit it. Traditional sea shanties and drinking rum are just 2 of the customs you might find yourself joining in!
The Festival International organized by la Porta Ferrada is the oldest arts festival of Catalunya. Celebrated during the summer months, it has been going on since the late 50’s and has a great selection of music, theater and dance.

The city’s main festival is the "Fiesta de la Mercè". It takes place in September and offers a huge choice of over 500 events to keep you amused.
