Dancing

Mention dancing in Barcelona and you could be talking about its many night clubs, traditional Catalunya dancing or the flamenco! The sardana is a symbol of Catalan harmony and pride and it's performed all over the city at certain festivals. During the warm summer months you can attend several performances at the Cathedral. People join hands to form a circle, raise them in the air then proceed to dance with tiny, exact steps. Others can join the circle until it gets so big that another one has to be formed. Musicians play brass instruments accompanied by a flute and tambourine. Very scenic.
It's really worth spending at least one night at a flamenco show. It is a very seductive dance transmitting a lot of passion and there are interesting shows around the city, some more touristy than others. More popular in the south of the country it’s still a spectacular sight to see and quite intense at times. Make an evening of it by booking a show complete with dinner and drinks and have a romantic time. It’s easy to rent apartments in Barcelona so you can walk around the city and choose the one that takes your fancy.
And for those who prefer the disco and want to go clubbing, equally: this is "the place"! Barcelona is famous for its numerous clubs and the catalonians are real partygoers!
