PANELLETS time is back in Barcelona : from Mid October until the end of December, you can see those delicious sweets in bakery and pastry shops.
Those are tiny cookies of varying shapes and flavours, traditionally accompanied by sweet wine and eaten throughout the fall. The basic recipe for Panellets requires the preparation of a paste !!! Yes, it might seem strange but they use Sweet potatoes !!!, almonds o pine nuts o coconut, sugar. The paste is flavoured with more almond, coconut, chocolate, coffee, orange or whatever else leaps to mind or hand and baked into tiny (moslty round) shapes.
In winter time in Barcelona, you can see small shops on street corners or at metro exits selling charcoal cooked sweet potatoes (spanish name is Boniatos) and chestnuts. Taste those potatoes and chestnuts … it is delicious.
You can buy those Panellets in many bakeries.
Also in Pastelerias (pastry shops) like the one near the Picasso Museum in the Born Area. Price +/- 1 € for one Pannelets
